In a memo to Jefferson Parish Council members, it was announced that Parish President Mike Yenni has been deployed for Hurricane Matthew.
Yenni, who is a reservist with the Navy, said in the memo "that I received military orders for deployment through October 15th due to the anticipated impact of Hurricane Matthew along the east coast."
The memo adds that Chief Operating Officer Keith Conley is acting president while Yenni is out of town.
The memo comes a day after Yenni was absent at the Parish Council meeting. The council meeting was the first public meeting at which Yenni was expected to appear since allegations surfaced in a WWL-TV story that the FBI is looking into whether he may have sent sexually explicit texts to a 17-year-old.
As the meeting began, however, Conley read a statement, saying, "that in an effort to allow this council to conduct its business without disruption Parish President Yenni will postpone addressing the public on the allegations made against him... The parish president continued his regular office schedule and will address the allegations against him later this week."
Some residents said that the allegations against Yenni are enough to call for his resignation with many of them voicing their concerns before the council Wednesday night.
