Pedestrian killed trying to cross Jefferson Highway

RIVER RIDGE, La. – A man from River Ridge was killed Wednesday evening while trying to cross Jefferson Highway.

State Police said 58-year-old William Rouse was standing in the median at Jefferson Highway and Orchard Road when he ran across the eastbound lanes. That's when Chantell Lacava, 32, who was driving a Toyota Camry, troopers said. They added Rouse was pronounced dead on the scene.

Impairment and speed are not considered factors of the crash, LSP said. Troopers said Lacava submitted to a breath test and no alcohol was found in her system.

No charges have been filed at this time, and the crash remains under investigation.
