Police: botched drug robbery leaves man dead outside JPSO complex

GRETNA, La. – Police said a drug robbery gone wrong was behind a fatal shootout Tuesday night in Gretna, blocks away from a law enforcement complex.

According to The New Orleans Advocate, police said Steven Tate, 19, called a drug dealer to a home in the 800 block of Gulf Drive around 6 p.m. with the intention of robbing him. Gulf Drive sits behind the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office complex.

Police said the alleged drug dealer died Tuesday night, and Tate was listed in critical condition after being shot six times.
