Police hop aboard trains to write tickets for unsafe crossings

METAIRIE, LA. - Three different organizations are joining forces Wednesday to promote public safety at railway crossings in Jefferson Parish.

The Kansas City Railway Company, Louisiana State Police and Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office will host an “Officer on a Train” event at 6 p.m. in Metairie. The event includes a safety briefing at 220 L&A Road.

During the event, KSCR will bring law enforcement officers into a locomotive cab for a first-person, real-time perspective of motorist and pedestrian activity around railways.

As the train travels through the community, other officers will be issuing citations for unsafe activities.
