HARVEY - A sophomore at Haynes Academy has scored a very rare feat by scoring a perfect 36 on the ACT and a perfect score on the PSAT, according to the school.
Neelambar "Neel" Mondal has two years of high school left, but already has accomplished something only one-tenth of one percent of students do annually.
The company that runs the ACT says that the accomplishment is even rarer for a sophomore.
"This is the first time I'm aware of that we've had a sophomore score a 36 on the ACT," said Haynes Academy Principal Karla Russo. "I also don't know that we've ever had a sophomore earn a perfect score on both of those tests."
Haynes is a high-achieving public school in Jefferson Parish.
Mondal actually took the ACT in seventh grade, at which time he scored a 33. He plans to study engineering in college.
"I was excited," said Mondal. "All the hard work I put in finally paid off."
The ACT is one of two standardized tests that are commonly used by colleges to determine whether someone will be offered a spot at their university.
