THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — Mayor Tommy Eschette says Thibodaux's first dog park could be completed by the end of the year.

The Daily Comet reports (http://bit.ly/1eWO9rh ) Norman Swanner Dog Park, named for the former city councilman who died of a massive heart attack in 2006, will be a 1-acre park located behind the Warren J. Harang Jr. Municipal Auditorium.

The park will be split into two fields, a 21,000-square-foot large dog area and a 10,800-square-foot small dog area.

Also included are 12 parking spaces, a 600-square-foot open air pavilion, refurbished fire hydrants for the animals and 12 benches.

Eschete says the city will evaluate the park after it is opened and could upgrade it with other pet-friendly equipment.
