LOCKPORT, La. - A postal worker delivering mail in Lockport was killed Saturday when the driver of an oncoming truck lost control and hit her, police said.

Starla Mire, 52, of Houma, was inside her U.S. Post Office-owned vehicle and stopped at La. 308 and McCloud Road when she was hit, Lockport Police Chief Warren Vedros said.

She was pronounced dead at the site of the wreck, which happened about 1:30 p.m.

Shanna Orgeron, 42, of Larose, lost control of the pickup truck in a curve, hit a utility pole and then Mire’s truck, which flipped upon impact and partially ejected Mire, he said.

Orgeron and her child, who was a passenger in the truck, were treated and released from Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital, Vedros said.

Toxicology tests, required by state law in all fatal crashes, are pending. Vedros said alcohol use is not suspected and no charges have been filed against Orgeron. The crash remains under investigation.
