Easter egg hunt interrupted as couple's breakup turns violent

Couple arrested at Easter egg hunt

THIBODAUX – An Easter Egg hunt at a party at a Thibodaux park was interrupted by a fight between an estranged couple that included each striking the other with a shovel handle followed by arrests by police.

The incident occurred Sunday around 5 p.m. at Peltier Park in Thibodaux.

According to Thibodaux police, officers were called to the scene for a report of a man hitting a woman in the head with what appeared to be a baseball bat.

Police said that it was learned through an investigation that 33-year-old Junius Boyd Jr. and 25-year-old Florence Robinson had ended their relationship earlier that day. Witnesses told police that Robinson arrived at the park, confronted Boyd with the shovel handle and shattered the windshield on his vehicle as he tried to leave. When Boyd got out of the vehicle, Robinson struck him in the arm with the shovel handle.

Police said Boyd then took the handle and hit Robinson in the head, causing a laceration. She was taken to the hospital and later released.

Both Boyd and Robinson were booked with aggravated battery with a dangerous weapon. Robinson was also booked with criminal damage to property and disturbing the peace.
