Houma woman arrested after sending fake bills to insurance company, troopers say

HOUMA, La. -- A woman is behind bars Wednesday after state troopers said she submitted more than $4,000 in fraudulent medical bills.

Troopers said 38-year-old Shanta Simmons was caught after a criminal complaint was made by Progressive Insurance Company.

Investigators said Simmons was submitting fraudulent medical bills from Terrebonne General Medical Center from an automobile crash that occurred in May 2014. Troopers said during the investigation, they were able to show Simmons intentionally submitted the fake bills.

Simmons faces two counts of automobile insurance fraud.
