SCHRIEVER, LA. - Police say a third person has died in a crash in Terrebonne Parish Monday morning.
Early Saturday afternoon, state police reported 45-year-old Jessie Bethancourt died from injuries he sustained in the wreck five days earlier.
According to Louisiana State Police, the crash happened shortly before 7 a.m. on LA 311 near Fletcher Technical Community College. The crash took the lives of 63-year-old Larry Landry of Thibodaux, La., and 31-year-old Timothy Cleary of Orlando, Florida.
Troopers say Landry was traveling south on LA 311 when, “for reasons under investigation,” crossed the center line and struck another vehicle head-on. Landry was wearing a seatbelt but suffered fatal injuries. The Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced him dead at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle, Bethancourt of Houma, La., was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered severe injuries, police say. He was transported by helicopter to University Medical Center in New Orleans.
Cleary, a passenger in Bethancourt’s vehicle, was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash; however, toxicology testing is pending from both drivers,” a statement from LSP said.
