Deputy shot in Baytown; Sterling HS on lockdown

KHOU 11 Team Coverage after a Harris County Deputy Constable was shot not far from Sterling HS early Monday, April 3, 2017

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- The Harris County Sheriff's Office says a Pct. 3 Deputy Constable was shot early Monday in Baytown.

The shooting happened around 7 a.m. in the 700 block of W. Baker Road east of Garth Street. Views from Air 11 show the shooting happened near an unmarked police SUV parked outside the county clerk's office. 

An ambulance transported the hurt deputy to a nearby landing site for Life Flight, and the deputy was then airlifted to the Texas Medical Center in Houston.

As of 7:35 a.m. nearby Sterling H.S. remained on lockdown as a precaution, according to Goosecreek CISD.

Views from Air 11 indicate that deputies are looking for a suspect as the investigation continues, but so far they have not officially commented on the shooter's whereabouts.

KHOU 11's Melissa Correa reports deputies are manning every corner of the Baytown neighborhood where the shooting occurred. Some have guns drawn as they watch a canal that leads away from crime scene.
