NOPD: Victim shoots carjacker during Uptown incident

Police said when one of the victims was pushed to the ground, he got out a gun and shot a masked man, hitting him in the abdomen.

NEW ORLEANS -- Two Uptown residents fought back early Sunday morning during a carjacking.

According to an initial report from the New Orleans Police Department, it happened just before 2 a.m. in the 1000 block of Milan Street.

Police sad two men had just pulled up to their home when they were approached by two other men with masks on. One of the masked men reportedly told a 57-year-old victim to put his hands on the vehicle.

Police said when one of the victims, a 63-year-old man, was pushed to the ground, he got out a gun and shot one of the masked men, hitting him in the abdomen.

The 57-year-old man heard the shots and reportedly ran to the Second District Police Station, less than two blocks away.

Police said one of the masked men drove off in the victim's silver Infinity, and the other man, who was shot, ran off.
