SLIDELL, La. (AP) — Almost 1,300 people visited the new St. Tammany Parish fishing pier in Slidell on its opening weekend, May 18-20, parish officials said.
The pier, on Lake Pontchartrain's north shore, was built from sections of the original Interstate 10 twin spans that were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
A fishing rodeo is planned at the pier on June 2. Details are available online at www.stpgov.org/gofishing or by calling 985-649-3037.
