COVINGTON, La. (AP) -- Four men have been sentenced for the 2008 rape of a 19-year-old Kentucky tourist they met on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.
The four were convicted of driving the victim to the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain and gang raping her. The Times-Picayune reports (http://bit.ly/vfzcW5 ) that 21-year-old Elroy Cooper and 19-year-old Jerrell Payton of Pearl River were sentenced in Covington Wednesday to 14 years in prison. A jury had convicted both of simple rape; 20-year-old Ralph Robertson of Pearl River was sentenced to 12 years for simple rape.
Chance Ross, who pleaded guilty to forcible rape and cooperated with investigators, was sentenced to 12 years, but with five years suspended.
A fifth man, 25-year-old Joshua Reed, was convicted of forcible rape and sentenced in June to 30 years in prison.
