Body of boater who had been missing since Saturday found Monday night

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. – After being ejected from his boat for unknown reasons on Saturday, a man’s body was found on Lake Maurepas on Monday night, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Around 8 p.m., a passing boater found the body of Daniel Mitchell, 51, of Springfield, about two miles south of where his unmanned vessel was found.

Since 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, crews have been searching around the mouth of the Tickfaw River on Lake Maurepas, which is where they found Mitchell’s unmanned 18-foot lake skiff circling.

Mitchell was not wearing a personal flotation device when he was found, according to the LDWF.

He was transferred to the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office.

The LDWF, Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Coast Guard and the Killian Dive Teamparticipated in the search.
