PEARL RIVER, La. – A fire that started in a bedroom Sunday afternoon in Pearl River moderately damaged a home before firefighters could get it under control, according to the St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11.

Around 1:43 p.m., firefighters received a call about the blaze in the 38000 block of James Crosby Road.

Three minutes later, firefighters arrived on scene and reported seeing smoke and fire coming from the residence.

Firefighters brought a hose line to the front door and were quickly met by heavy smoke upon entry, according to officials.

Using a thermal imager camera, the fire was located in an adjacent bedroom and firefighters began attacking the fire, St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11 said.

The situation was under control within 30 minutes with the help from 11 firefighters from District No. 11 as well as additional personal and apparatus from St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 1.

The home received moderate fire and water damage, particularly in the bedroom where the fire was located, and the remainder of the home was impacted by smoke, fire officials said.

No firefighters were injured, and the elderly woman homeowner was staying with family and was not home at the time of the fire.
