SLIDELL, La. -- Police arrested four more people in connection with a shooting in Olde Town on Christmas that left two people dead.
The primary suspect, Jamieon Chatman, 22, was already arrested two days after the shooting, but according to Slidell Police, Markel Foster, 24, Paul Nixon, 23, Rico Bedford, 19, and Torin Joseph, 23, all played a role in assisting Chatman by either getting rid of evidence and helping him elude law enforcement authorities during his two days on the lam from police.
All four suspects were charged with six counts of accessory after the fact to attempted second-degree murder and two counts of accessory after the fact to second-degree murder, said Det. Daniel Seuzeneau, a spokesman for Slidell Police.
“I hope this sends a strong message that if you’re caught assisting a known criminal, you will be arrested and prosecuted,” said Chief Randy Smith.
Just after midnight on Christmas Day, two people, Errol Scott, 22, and Mark Womack, 23, were killed in a shooting in Olde Town near the intersection of First and Cousin streets, police said. According to witnesses, a fight broke out as bars were closing in Olde Towne, and during the scuffle, shots were fired into a crowd. Eight people ended up being shot in the melee.
Scott died at the scene, and Womack later died at an area hospital. According to police, Scott and Womack were not Chatman’s intended targets.
