SLIDELL, La. -- Local firefighters are heading to New York Wednesday to help communities still feeling the effects of Superstorm Sandy.

Every year, as part of a trip to help remember 911, these local firefighters have traveled across the country to help other area affected by disasters.
In the past few years, they have traveled to Indiana, Texas, Kansas, Iowa, Arkansas, Georgia, and North Dakota.
Wednesday, they will go to Long Island, New York, to join forces with other volunteers from across the country to try to make a difference in the lives of the victims of Superstorm Sandy.
