FOLSOM, La. — An off-duty St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputy died Sunday night after his car crashed near Folsom.

State police said John Tanner, 61, was heading west on Louisiana Hwy. 40 shortly after 5 p.m. when he was unable to negotiate a curve in his Corvette. Tanner went on the road and overcorrected, crashing into the opposite ditch.

Tanner wasn’t wearing his seatbelt, state troopers said.

He died at the hospital.

Investigators do not suspect Tanner was impaired, but a toxicology test is pending.
