SLIDELL, La. --  A Texas woman was killed and her passenger was in serious condition after a pickup truck slammed into the back of her car on I-12, pushing it off the highway.

The incident occurred in Slidell near exit 80 around 6 p.m.

According to State Police, a pickup driven by 44-year-old Kevin Greenwood of Florida was driving on I-12 when he failed to slow down despite congestion ahead of him. The pickup slammed into the back of a Mazda driven by 19-year-old Kristen Stoltman of Woodlands, Texas.

Police said Stoltman was killed on impact and her passenger, 20-year-old Jesse Stoltman of Texas sustained serious injuries.

Greenwood was arrested and charged with careless operation, negligent homicide and negligent injuring.
