MANDEVILLE, La. - An empty gasoline tanker developed a leak that caused the Causeway Bridge to temporarily shut down on Monday morning.
The drive shaft broke off, severing a small line on the pump that released what was left in the tank, which was less than five gallons, according to fire officials.
An engine from fire district 4, a rescue truck and an ambulance were all present on the scene.
The southbound bridge was closed form about 8:40 a.m. to 9:05 a.m.
By 9:15 a.m., the leak had been contained.
