WASHINGTON PARISH, La. -- A Tickfaw man died after being crushed by a heavy duty loading ramp Tuesday, according to the Washington Parish Sherff's Office.

Hillary Owens, 55, was unloading logging equipment in the area of Highway 437, just north of the St. Tammany Parish, when the ramp fell on him.  Loggers on site estimated the ramp weighed around 2,000 pounds.  It is unclear what caused the ramp to fail, according to the sheriff's office.

Owens was pronounced dead on the scene by medical personnel. The ramp was eventually raised by air bags deployed by personnel from Fire Districts 1 and 8.
