HAMMOND, La. - Two people were found dead in a house on Mallard Drive in Hammond, according to WAFB in Baton Rouge. The victims, a man and woman, had been shot.
The Hammond Police Department is investigating.
According to Hammond Police, neighbors didn't hear gunshots, as the shooting may have occured during Tuesday evening's thunderstorms.
A 14-year-old girl, daughter to the female victim, discovered the bodies of her mother and her new boyfriend, according to police.
"When officers arrived at the scene, they found the female victims daughter stating that someone had gained entry into the residence shooting her mother, Temeka Muse, 37-year-old black female and her boyfriend, 39-year-old Karum Smith while they were sleeping," said a statement from Hammond Police spokesman Lt. Vincent Giannobile.
A suspect, an ex-boyfriend, McGhee Giles, 45, of Independence, La., is in custody, according to State Police.
Hammond Police investigators believe that McGhee may have used a key to get inside the home.
