Hammond man accused of killing relative inside Baton Rouge home

HAMMOND - A 53-year-old Hammond man was arrested early Sunday and booked with second-degree murder after a 50-year-old man was found shot to death in a Baton Rouge home.

The killing occurred around 1:45 a.m. in the 12700 block of Parnell Drive in Baton Rouge.

Taher Toom was arrested at his home in Hammond later in the day. The victim is identified as 50-year-old Zakaria Toom. Baton Rouge Police spokesman Don Coppola Jr., told The Advocate, that police believe the two men are related. They also believe that both the victim and the suspect were relatives of the people living at the home on Parnell Drive, though neither of the two men lived there.

Investigators said they do not have a motive at this time.
