ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. -- A man is dead after officials said he pointed a gun at deputies and was shot and killed Saturday night.
The incident happened shortly before 10 p.m., in the 37200 block of Holifield Lane, in the Hickory area.
Deputies said they were called after a report that a man was shooting a gun inside the home and holding a woman hostage.
Authorities said the man came out of the home and point the gun at deputies. That's when officials said the deputies fired, shooting and killing the man.
Officials identified the man was 55-year-old Eddy Longoria, a resident of Dallas.
"As is standard in such incidents, the deputies involved have been placed on temporary leave pending an investigation," said St. Tammany Parish Public information Officer Deputy Meredith Timberlake in a release about the incident.
Timberlake said the investigation is ongoing.
