Second suspect named in Covington motel murder

COVINGTON, La. – Police named a second suspect in the murder of a man in a Covington hotel.

Demetri James is wanted for first-degree murder by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's office in relation to the death of Brandon Washington at the Green Springs Motel on Oct. 4.

Police warn that James should be considered armed and dangerous. Please use caution if you see him and call 911 immediately.

James is the second suspect named in this murder investigation.

Terry Hookfin, 27, was booked on a count of second-degree murder earlier this week, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responding to a report of gunfire about 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, found Washington, 32, dead inside a room at the Green Springs Motel, 72533 Highway 23, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

“We will continue to work until we are certain that everyone responsible for this murder is behind bars,” Sheriff Randy Smith said in a prepared statement.
