Suspected shoplifters interrupt detective's lunch

HAMMOND, La. -- Three suspected shoplifters were at the wrong place at the wrong time Tuesday afternoon.

Around 12:10 p.m. August 30, a detective was on his lunch break and said he became suspicious when he saw several people running out of the Dillards in Slidell. He said the group jumped into a 2002 silver Toyota Camry and left quickly. Deputies said the three suspects had just stolen more than $1,200 worth of merchandise from the store.

The detective chased Austin Oliver, 32, Erica Oliver, 33, and Carshonda Barze, 28, who were eventually stopped on I-12, directly in front of the St. Tammany Parish Law Enforcement Complex in Slidell.

Deputies recovered all of the stolen merchandise and placed the three suspects under arrest for felony theft.

Oliver also had an outstanding theft warrant from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.

All three suspects were booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
