Thousands still without power in Tangipahoa Parish

There were still about 17,000 buildings without power in Tangipahoa Parish.

AMITE – About 17,000 customers remained without power in Tangipahoa Parish Saturday night, more than 24 hours after heavy snow hit the area, weighing down tree branches, which in some cases fell on power lines.

With an assist from crews from Texas and Arkansas, Entergy expects to have most of the power back on by Saturday at 9 p.m. Everyone should have power restored by Sunday at noon.

The parish had a warming shelter open for those in need, but closed it when no one showed up. Parish leaders said it could be opened if the need arises.

Friday night there was a 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday curfew in effect, but no such curfew was in place Saturday.

Citizens are asked to call 911 for any emergencies that may develop.
