OMV offices will no longer accept cash

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles will no longer accept cash as payments at its offices for any vehicle transactions beginning Tuesday, November 1, 2016.

Effective Nov. 1, residents will only be able to pay for driver's licenses, identification cards, vehicle transactions, reinstatement transactions and mobility-impaired hang tags with debit or credit cards, money orders, checks or cashier's checks.

The news release from the Office of Motor Vehicles did not explain the reason for the change.

The following is a list of acceptable payment methods: 

Driver’s License, Identification Card & Mobility Impaired Hang Tag Transactions
Debit/Credit/Check/Money Order/Cashier Check

Reinstatement Transactions
Debit/Credit/Money Order/Cashier Check

Vehicle Transactions
Debit/Credit/Check/Money Order/Cashier Check

Temporary Markers, In-Transit Placard & Secured Power of Attorney Transactions
Debit/Credit/Check/Money Order/Cashier Check

Motor Vehicle Inspection Sticker Books Transactions
Debit/Credit/Check/Money Order/Cashier Check
