NEW ORLEANS - A group of Broadmoor business owners said they have had enough with the crime in their area. On Thursday, the South Broad Business Coalition held a forum to discuss ways to stop the violence from happening.
S. Broad and Washington Avenue has become the hub of a growing commercial area.
Three murders have occurred in near there in the past two years.
The most recent murder happened in broad daylight on March 4 in the 4100 block of Washington Avenue.
On Monday, the Broadmoor Improvement Association held a forum to discuss blight, crime and burglaries in homes.
Councilmember LaToya Cantrell said she is working with the South Broad Business Coalition to get crime cameras in the area.
"Businesses that are there now, most of them have bought into this. We believe the budget is about $10,000. So, I'd agree to put at least $5,000 of funds towards this initiative, as I'm doing in other areas throughout the district where crime is rampant," Cantrell said.
The coalition invited residents, business owners and the police chief to the 7:30 a.m. meeting at Rhodes Pavilion at 3933 Washington Ave.
