NEW ORLEANS - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development said it's against the law for the state to pay to keep the decorative lights on on the Crescent City Connection.
The lights were turned out Friday due to the lack of toll collection. The Regional Planning Commission did not fund the lights.
Roberts said that based on his research of old Baton Rouge news reports, the decorative lights on the capital's Mississippi River bridge were installed by the state. The state currently pays the maintenance and electric bills for this bridge, Roberts said.
Roberts questioned the practice of the state's involvement in the funding of Baton Rouge's bridge and asked why standards are different when it comes to New Orleans' bridge.
The councilman said he sent an e-mail to the state on Friday night with his questions, but the state had failed to respond as of Sunday night.
Roberts said if there are inconsistencies, he will go to the governor.
