NEW ORLEANS - Firefighters rescued two young children from a fire Saturday night in Algiers, administering life-saving CPR to the children.

A 911 call reported the fire involving a residence in the 3000 block of Americus St. around 9:45 p.m. Saturday, firefighters said.

After receiving reports of people trapped inside, firefighters found one child in the bathroom, unresponsive and not breathing.  Another child was in a bedroom closet, also unresponsive and not breathing.

Both children appeared to be between six and eight years old, NOFD said.

Firefighters performed CPR and were able to revive the children, who were transported to the hospital by EMS.

It was not clear from fire officials if other people were inside the home at the time.

The fire was quickly extinguished and contained to the kitchen and family room.

There are no other reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
