NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans Fire Department was on the scene of an electrical fire involving wires hanging over a parked school bus on a Treme street Tuesday morning.
The driver and the seven children on the bus eventually exited safely.
The incident occurred shortly before 8 a.m. near Ursuline Avenue and North Derbingy Street.
A power line broke and fell on a tree, causing it to catch fire. The power line then landed on a school bus that was passing by, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
The school bus stopped, and the occupants on the bus were trapped until Entergy cut the power.
A good Samaritan was giving the children water and juice, according to a nearby resident.
EMS and NOFD checked everyone on the bus, and no one was injured, according to the NOPD.
The bus went back en-route to the elementary school, police said.
Entergy was on the scene repairing the power line while the area was left without power.
