NEW ORLEANS – On Wednesday night, a motorcyclist died after being thrown off an interstate entrance ramp and falling to the street below in the Treme neighborhood, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Shortly before midnight, a group of bikers entered the eastbound North Claiborne entrance ramp at St. Phillip Street, police said.

When they approached the elevated portion of the ramp, just before entering the interstate, the driver of one of the motorcycles lost control and struck another motorcyclist, according to the NOPD.

The 38-year-old driver of a white Susuki was ejected from his bike over the concrete rail. He fell onto North Claiborne Avenue and died on the scene, police said.

His motorcycle continued forward onto the interstate and struck the cement rail. A vehicle traveling on the interstate struck his motorcycle, but no one was injured, the NOPD said.

The 40-year-old driver of the other motorcycle, a black Susuki, was transported to the hospital and was listed in stable condition, police said.

No citations were issued and the accident remained under investigation, police said. Blood and alcohol tests are pending, and the Orleans Parish Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
