Smith replaces Bud Brown, who recently announced his decision to retire after 7 years at Channel 4.
It is a homecoming for Smith, who began his broadcasting career at WWL before going on to hold the position of general manager at WWL’s sister stations in
Smith was met with applause almost the minute he walked into a staff meeting in the WWL-TV studios, where he literally began his broadcasting career as a production assistant.
“The opportunity to come back home - professionally and personally - is one that I'm excited to have,” Smith said.
“I'm honored and humbled to work with a team that understands the responsibility that comes with serving our communities and we will continue to earn their trust everyday. There's a spirit in this community and it fills this station as well. I'm proud to have a chance to serve them both.”

Smith also enjoyed a career with Shell Oil and, after leaving WWL, held a position as vice president and media director with Peter A. Mayer Advertising.
He has served as general manager of WVEC-TV in
