NEW ORLEANS – Police are searching for a man in relation to a violent armed robbery in which the suspect struck a business owner several times with a gun before making off with $500, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
Around 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, Anthony Fields, 26, entered a store in the 3000 block of Bienville Street.
He produced a handgun, leaped across the counter and demanded cash from the owner, police said.
The owner refused and a struggle ensued, in which Fields struck the victim several times in the head with the gun, according to the NOPD. Fields then escaped with the cash.
The incident was captured on the store’s video surveillance.
Due to witness participation, detectives were able to positively identify Fields as the perpetrator.
Once apprehended, he will be charged with one count of armed robbery, aggravated battery and aggravated assault.
Fields has been previously arrested for multiple armed robberies with firearms, flight from officer, criminal trespass, felon with a firearm, firearm with an obliterated serial number, simple robbery, misrep of name, unauthorized use of a moveable and simple burglary. He is currently on probation until October 2014 for simple burglary.
