NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Residents can now cut down on the wait time at the bus or streetcar stop with a new Transit Tracker Text Messaging Program from the Regional Transit Authority.

With the program, riders will now be able to text RTA for updated bus and streetcar schedules.

The service is free, but standard data fees and texting rates may apply based on cell phone plans.

Stop IDs are posted at all service stops with texting instructions, so riders simply text their stop ID to 27299, and after that, a response comes with the streetcar or bus' arrival time at the stop.

This is another step in an ongoing effort by the RTA Board of Commissioners to improve availability of information that will enhance the rider experience, improve the quality of life for riders and make the transit system more accessible.
