Search on for mentally challenged man who jumped fence of care center

NEW ORLEANS – Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a mentally challenged man who jumped the fence of the Community Care Center in the Milan neighborhood on Tuesday, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Derrick Garner, 24, was last seen by his care taker, who saw him escape the facility in the 1400 block of General Taylor Street around 1:30 p.m.

Garner has not been seen or heard from since, police said.

He suffers from a mental condition and is need of medication.

He is described as black, approximately 5’8” tall and approximately 130 pounds. He was last seen wearing hospital scrubs.

Anyone with information on Garner’s whereabouts is asked to call 821-2222.
