NEW ORLEANS – A three day prostitution sting in New Orleans East and Mid-City resulted in the arrest of 11 people, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
The operation was spurred on after detectives and residents noticed an increase in crime in the 6000 block of Chef Menteur Highway and on Tulane Avenue between South Galvez Street to South Jeff Davis Parkway.
On September 19, detectives went undercover on Tulane Avenue and arrested two suspected prostitutes, Dwayne Johnson, 45, and Tory Smith, 21.
On September 20, detectives went undercover on Chef Highway and arrested five suspected prostitutes. Four of those suspects, Lorne Patterson, 18, Keeshae McClinton, 24, Desirea Williams, 20 and Shandraka Mobley, 22, are from Memphis, Tennessee. The fifth suspect, Jennivia Willams, 28, is from Jackson, Mississippi.
On Monday, detectives went undercover on Tulane Avenue and Chef Highway, where they re-arrested two of the suspected prostitutes, Mobely and Jennivia Williams, from the previous Thursday.
They also arrested four more suspects, Detonsha McKinnie, 20, Rhonda Szekely, 45, Wendy Melgar, 44, and Bryant Dobard, 24.
According to Louisiana State Law, people convicted on a first offense of crime against nature by solicitation are fined not more than $500, imprisoned for not more than 6 months or both.
Those convicted a second time are fined not less than $250 and not more than $2,000, imprisoned - with or without hard labor - for not more than 2 years or both.
