Timeline of gas well blowout:

Tuesday, 8:45 a.m.: The platform owner, Walter Oil and Gas, lost control of the unmanned well. A company performing work on the platform noticed natural gas below the sea floor started flowing out of control, and 44 people were safely evacuated.

Tuesday morning: Crews got to work trying to stop the leak.

Tuesday afternoon: The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement flew over the site and saw the cloud of gas rising from the rig and a light sheen on the water a half mile by 50 feet in the area.

Late Tuesday night: Fire breaks out on the blown out gas well.

Wednesday morning: Fire continues to burn

Wednesday midday: Drilling rig begins to collapse
