NEW ORLEANS - A 94-year-old WWII veteran and his son met the Dalai Lama at University of New Orleans on Saturday.

Sidney Walton and his son, Paul Walton, had a "once-in-lifetime experience," according to a family member.

The Dalai Lama gave Sidney Walton his "kata.”

Paul Walton said that the three of them chatted and laughed together for close to 10 minutes.

The Dalai Lama asked Sidney Walton questions about where he served in World War II, what weapon he carried and whether he had shot anybody, according to Paul Walton. Sidney Walton told the Dalai Lama that he served in India, carried a Springfield ‘03 rifle and never shot anybody.
