NEW ORLEANS - After a motorcycle driver lost control, his passenger was ejected into oncoming traffic where she was fatally hit by a car that kept going, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Around 1 a.m. on Thursday, the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on the high rise near the Downman Road exit.

The motorcycle collided with a cargo van that was stopped due to congestion from a previous, unrelated auto accident, police said.

The driver lost control and his passenger, a 31-year-old Mississippi woman, was ejected from the bike and landed on the westbound side of the high rise in the oncoming traffic of the middle lane, according to the NOPD.

The woman was hit by a black sedan that continued driving, New Orleans police said.

She was pronounced dead on the scene and the motorcycle driver is in stable condition in the hospital, police said.

No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing, officers said.
