Balloons knock out power for thousands in Carrollton, Mid-City

Mylar balloons that got caught in some Entergy equipment caused outages to more than 14,000 homes and buildings.

NEW ORLEANS -- Power has been restored for thousands of Entergy customers after balloons put parts of Mid-City and Carrollton in the dark Wednesday afternoon.

According to Entergy, Mylar balloons, the type commonly sold to celebrate birthdays and other special occassions, hit power equipment in the area and caused the outage just after 1 p.m.

The balloons knocked out power for nearly 13,000 customers in the area between City Park and Audubon Park until about 4 p.m. when power was completely restored.
