NEW ORLEANS -- Gallier Hall is getting a much-needed renovation.
Mayor Mitch Landrieu and other city officials made the announcement Tuesday morning, saying the work will include the restoration of artwork, chandeliers, windows and much more.
First Lady of New Orleans, Cheryl Landrieu, called the makeup a "legacy project."
The scope of the work includes restoring about 40 paintings inside the hall, 33 chandeliers and 60 windows located in the grand ballroom.
"We're executing a vision to completely restore the interior of the building, to really imagine what the building can be like for future generations to come," said Cheryl Landrieu.
Restorers who are working on the artifacts said it isn't a job.
"I believe that the objects of this collection were crafted with such care and love that I'm really excited that I get to restore them," said Elizabeth Holt.
"It's amazing. I get to not only touch it, but I get to be a part of the painting's history," said Darcie Flynn.
The goal is to have the restoration completed by November of 2018.
