NEW ORLEANS - The Morial Convention Center New Orleans has a new front entrance that will open in time for Super Bowl 47.
The Convention Center will host the NFL Store and serve as the International Press Center during the Super Bowl.
The entrance will welcome Super Bowl visitors as it is a hub of activity for the event and will also welcome conventioneers.
"For all our million guests that come here every year, this will be a sense of arrival for them like we've never had before," said Tim Hemphill, the vice president of the Morial Convention Center New Orleans.
The new entrance is part of a $60 million expansion at the Convention Center and will be the first ever grand entrance at the location.
"We want to freshen up the look and freshen up the whole district that hosts the conventions each year. The building is a long building and it has never really had a front door. So, this is the new front door," Hemphill said.
The plaza at the entrance can be used for parties and a new balcony was built to overlook Convention Center Boulevard.
The expansion also includes two ballrooms. One is 60,300 square feet and column free, which will put the Convention Center in a competitive position, Hemphill said. The other is a 4,600 square foot junior ballroom which will be called the Rivergate Room.
The official ribbon cutting is set to be held on January 25.
