Non-profit rebuilding group falls victims to thieves

NEW ORLEANS - A non-profit group that rebuilds blighted houses and sells them to teachers at a big discount has had its trailer of tools stolen for the third time in recent weeks.

When the group Youth Rebuilding New Orleans came to work Wednesday morning in the 2700 block of St. Ann Street, the entire tool trailer had been stolen, and chains and wires securing it to a dumpster had been cut.

It is a 6' x 10' white Explorer trailer. Youth Rebuilding New Orleans says the cost of the trailer and tools is $8,500. The license plate number on the trailer is L328078 and the VIN is 4D6EB10159C020764.

"We have insurance for the organization but unfortunately the trailer fell in this gray area where it wasn't on the property and it wasn't solely insured and so unfortunately we're completely at a loss," said William Stoudt, the group's executive director.

If you have any information about the theft or want to donate funds to help cover the costs of the stolen items, call (504) 264-3344 or click here.
