HARVEY, La. - Ahlittia North, 6, was last seen at her parents' Harvey apartment on Friday night. They had tucked her into bed around 11 p.m.

On Saturday morning, her parents discovered she was missing.

A search began immediately for North in the surrounding neighborhood.

On Sunday, a reward was offered in the case of up to $3,500.

Detectives then stopped physically searching the area and shifted their focus on questioning registered sex offenders who lived in the area.

On Monday, the reward was increased up to $5,000.

Also on Monday, investigators named a person of interest in the case. Matthew Flugence, 20, is wanted for the alleged sexual battery of an 11-year-old in the Harvey area earlier in 2013. He is the nephew of North's stepfather.

Then, just before midnight, authorities blocked off a stretch of Destrehan Road while they questioned residents in the area.

Around 1 a.m. Tuesday, North's parents received a phone call from detectives that the girl was found dead in a dumpster.

On Tuesday afternoon, Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office announced that Flugence, who sometimes babysat North, was wanted for the murder. Deputies also arrested his brother, Russell Flugence, for obstruction of justice  for allegedly withholding information.

Around 10 p.m. Tuesday, Matthew Flugence was picked up by deputies while walking near Victory Drive and Westbank Expressway. After hours of questioning, he was booked with murder around 6:30 a.m. at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.

WWLTV is continuing to gather information.
