Person of interest named in Algiers murder

NEW ORLEANS – Police are looking for a man they believe may know information about a September murder in Algiers.

Police want to speak with Armand “Budda” Matthews, 32, about a Sept. 27 shooting that left a woman dead.

Police said around 2 p.m. that afternoon, they found a man and woman suffering from gunshots in the 1400 block of Newton Street. Both were brought to an area hospital, where police said the woman later died.

Police said Matthews is known to frequent several West Bank neighborhoods in both Orleans and Jefferson parishes.

Matthews is not a suspect, and the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

Anyone with information about Matthews or his whereabouts is asked to call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
