There is still over $5million in Crescent City Connection toll money that has not been claimed, so State Treasurer John Kennedy is expected to be on the Crescent City Connection Wednesday morning, to tell people how to get their money back.
Over the summer, DOTD transferred unclaimed toll money, that came from deposits and tolls collected this year after voters in Jefferson, Orleans and Plaquemines Parishes rejected a 20-year toll extension on the bridge, to the State Treasury.
Since the beginning of July, the State Treasury has issued nearly 10, 000 checks for a total of over $350,000.
State Treasurer John Kennedy is encouraging New Orleans area residents who are due Crescent City Connection toll refunds to come to Oakwood Mall this weekend, where over 16,000 Geauxpass customers can get help processing their claims, and search for unclaimed property.
Someone will be there to walk residents with a valid photo ID and social security card, through a simple refund process.
Checks for all approved claims will be issued and mailed as quickly as possible after the event.
Residents can begin the toll refund process by visiting refundthetolls.com where there are instructions and a simple, one-page claim form, can be filled out in advance of the event.
This weekend’s Refund the Tolls event is Saturday, September 21 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Oakwood Mall at the JC Penny wing.
