St. Charles Parish officials say that the parish waterworks dept. is aware of taste and odor issues on both the east and west bank of the parish.

They said that despite the issues with the taste and smell, the water is safe to drink.

The parish said the change is due to the low water levels in the Mississippi River, which provides the source of the tap water.

The parish said waterworks has increased the carbon filtering to minimize the issues until water levels rise.
